Americans Nicholas Negroponte and Mary Lou Jepsen present thel US$100 Laptop Prototype at the World Summit on the Information Society at the convention center in Kram, 10 kms (6 miles) north of Tunis, Tunisia, Wednesday Nov. 16, 2005. According to the MIT Media Lab, it has launched a new research initiative to develop a US$100 laptopa technology that it hopes could revolutionize how the world’s children are educated. To achieve this goal, a new, non-profit association, One Laptop per Child (OLPC), has been created. The initiative was first announced by Nicholas Negroponte, Lab chairman and co-founder, at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland in January 2005.
