My team crossed the finish line of the Kodiak Eco-Challenge Adventure Race today in a time of 5 hours and 59 minutes.
It was a fantastic event, an amazing adventure and a day to remember with Andy, our team (Andy, Amy, Jeff and me) and the super Coast Guard family/community of Kodiak, Alaska.
Our team finished 7th out of 11 teams. The first place team finished in 4:15, the 10th place team finished in 7:30 and one team did not finish (due to injury, during the race). The first place team had a couple of Coast Guard rescue swimmers (yeah, the ones who jump out of helicopters into the ocean to scoop fisherman out of the Bering Sea in the winter, like in the movies) who were in their 20’s and in great shape. Our team did awesome in the back country mountain trekking/hiking but one of our team members had quite a bit of difficulty with the long mountain biking legs of the race, otherwise we would’ve surely finished several places higher.
I also have to mention how awesome Amy on our team was (her husband is a Coast Guard helicopter pilot who’s been away for two months deployed on a ship and he hasn’t seen his new three month first-born baby son Eli since five weeks after Amy delivered). Amy was a machine throughout the entire race, and after having her first child only 3 months ago…WOW, it blew me away!
Thanks again Andy and Martha for a fantastic visit!!!

The local newspaper in Kodiak posted an article about the race – click here.

Brad – It was awesome racing with you; it was cool to have you pushing everyone hard during our slog through the mud at Termination Point! As soon as I get the rest of the photos from the race I’ll send them along.
